British Swim School Splashes Down by the Beach

The Nation’s Premier ‘Learn to Swim’ Provider Awards New Locations in Cerritos and Huntington Beach

British Swim School, the nation’s leading “learn to swim” franchise company, continues its rapid expansion across North America with the opening of its newest franchise locations in Cerritos this month and Huntington Beach in June. Lessons will be held at the 24 Hour Fitness Center at 17970 Studebaker Rd. in Cerritos on Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday.

Priscilla and Ted Yoon are a dynamic duo with a passion for business and entrepreneurship and the owners of the new locations. Priscilla, with her background in teaching and the nonprofit sector, will run the day-to-day operations. Ted enters the franchisee space with an experienced career background in waste management and sales. As the parents of two girls, ages six and two, the Yoons agreed that they were ready for a change. It was through enlightened conversations with a franchise consultant that Ted and Priscilla Yoon discovered British Swim School was the perfect opportunity to start their own
business.

“We felt like we were giving maximum effort, going full throttle, juggling childcare, but were not feeling fulfilled and looking for new opportunities” says Ted of their decision to become first-time franchisees. “British Swim School truly stands out from their competition. For more than 40 years, British Swim School has been dedicated to teaching water survival skills by teaching infants, children, and adults of all ages the skills needed for water acclimation, water survival, and stroke development. Across the nation, eleven people die every day from unintentional drownings, with nearly 4,000 deaths occurring each year. Research shows that participation in formal swim programs, such as those offered by British Swim School, can reduce the risk of drowning by 88% among children who are most at risk for deaths caused by drowning. However, the risk of drowning isn’t limited to children: a Red Cross survey found that more than half of all Americans (54%) either can’t swim or don’t have the basic swimming skills needed to save themselves in the event of a water emergency.

“We have kids and water safety is non-negotiable,” Priscilla claims. “It’s a skill you must learn that you’ll take through the rest of your life. My oldest daughter has loved the water from day one.” Priscilla also has fond memories of her own aquatic experiences, saying, “As a child, I’d be at my community pool as much as possible. I remember wishing I was a fish! I couldn’t wait to go swimming again.”
