British Swim School Makes a Major Splash in Utah

The Nation’s Premier ‘Learn to Swim’ Provider Opens One of Three New Franchises in Salt Lake City

British Swim School of Salt Lake City, owned by Scott Houck, celebrates its grand opening on April 25th at the Hampton Inn located at 10690 South Holiday Park Drive in Sandy, where lessons will be offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:30-7:30pm and Saturdays from 9:00-1:00pm. Houck and his team are excited to welcome students of all ages who will learn the signature survival skills and basic stroke development British Swim School is known for. Enrollment is open and the school is currently accepting new students for pre-registration.
“The extent to which drowning incidents continue to occur is a profound tragedy that calls for action,” Houck professed. “Through swim lessons, like those offered at British Swim School, we have the potential to save lives. It is not our ambition to foster elite swimmers, though we welcome such accomplishments. Rather, we are dedicated to imparting a vital life skill that equips individuals of all ages and abilities to enjoy the water safely.”
British Swim School offers a three-part curriculum teaching children and adults of all ages, some as young as three months, water acclimation, safety, and survival skills, and swim stroke development. While parental supervision is always the number one safety measure, research shows that After spending many years in private equity where he worked with entrepreneurs, Houck was inspired to start his own business. After the success of his first venture, a home service company, he decided to expand his business portfolio. Instead of starting another business from scratch, Houck turned to franchising and was intrigued by the British Swim School business model.
“British Swim School is the only franchise with a pure partnership model,” Houck said. “We operate at local hotels, fitness centers, and even retirement communities with great indoor pools that are typically quite underutilized. There is no expensive build-out required and it allows for quick start-up and expansion. I also appreciate the support I get from the corporate team. When you're running an independent business, it can be tricky and full of trial and error. Being part of a franchise means you get a system that's already proven to work. It's also super helpful to be able to chat with other franchisees who've built their own successful businesses in different places.”
Houck joins the growing team of franchise owners that operate more than 300 British Swim Schools across the United States and Canada.
"We are excited to welcome Scott Houck to the British Swim School family and have him be part of our expansion into Utah," said Ashley Gundlach, British Swim School President. “He and his team have the skills, energy, and enthusiasm to provide families in the Salt Lake City area with much-needed swim lessons.”
