Owner Christopher Collar Bringing Swim Instruction to Asheville

Beginning on May 6th, owners Christopher and MaryAnn Collar will begin holding lessons at Candlewood Suites Downtown Asheville 49 Tunnel St., Asheville, NC 28805. The Collars decision to purchase a British Swim School franchise came after they reprioritized their lives because of a series of health scares. “About six years ago, MaryAnn was diagnosed with breast cancer. Fortunately, it was caught very early, and MaryAnn is now cancer free,” said Christopher Collar. “Then, eleven months ago, Mary Ann suffered sudden cardiac arrest late at night.” Luckily, Christopher woke up and was able to perform CPR until medical help arrived.“After something like that happens, it becomes very clear what’s important in life and that’s family.”As a result, the Collars moved to Asheville to be closer to their daughter and her husband. “I’d been retired for ten years, but I knew I needed to find something to keep me busy and hopefully make a difference in our community,” said Christopher Collar. They began working with a national franchise coach to find a franchise that would align with their goals and values. British Swim School checked all the boxes. “It’s incredible to see how British Swim School can teach swimming survival skills to even the tiniest of children,” said Christopher Collar. “There’s definitely a need for this kind of swim lesson in our community. Drowning is the leading cause of accidental death of young children and is preventable.” The Collars’ son and his wife, currently living overseas, plan to return next year and will also be involved with the business.
