British Swim School Offering Critical Swim Safety in Greater Sugar Land

British Swim School continues its nationwide expansion with the opening of its newest franchise in Richmond, Texas. British Swim School of Greater Sugar Land will officially begin holding lessons inside the LA Fitness at 19409 West Bellfort Street on September 13^th.

Ada and Chidi Ekwo are the proud owners of British Swim School of Greater Sugar Land. As newer parents, the husband-and-wife duo recognized the importance of swim safety and were looking for a business opportunity that fit their ideals. Former student-athletes themselves, the Ekwos also value teamwork and community, so it was a no-brainer to begin this exciting new journey.

“We have a high awareness about the number of accidental drowning deaths in children,” Ada said. “For us, it’s important to educate our loved ones and the community to prevent these avoidable tragedies. We really want to make sure folks around us have easy access to water safety and swim survival lessons.”

For more than 40 years, British Swim School has been dedicated to teaching water survival skills by teaching infants, children, and adults of all ages the skills needed for water acclimation, water survival, and stroke development. Its mission — ensure that every person, regardless of age or ability, has the opportunity to become a safe and happy swimmer.

Across the nation, an average of eleven people die every day from unintentional drownings, with nearly 4,000 deaths occurring each year. Research shows that participation in formal swim programs, such as those offered by British Swim School, can reduce the risk of drowning by 88% among children who are most at risk for deaths caused by drowning. However, the risk of drowning isn’t limited to children: a Red Cross survey found that more than half of all Americans (54%) either can’t swim or don’t have the basic swimming skills needed to save themselves in the event of a water emergency.
