Rita Goldberg dives into the deep end with her entrepreneurial journey

Rita Goldberg, CEO and Founder of British Swim School, talks about her entrepreneurial journey and the lucrative franchise opportunity available to local entrepreneurs on Business News Daily. She admits that her journey was very unplanned, but her passion for swimming led her into the business world. Now she owns a business that not only is growing faster, but also saves lives! It all started in the 1970's when Goldberg aspired to be on the British national swim team after earning a spot at the Olympic time trials, but an unexpected injury kept her from succeeding. In 1976, Goldberg agreed to open a swim club with a friend in South Manchester and taught all lessons. After immediate success, the local community was extremely interested in the concept. From this, Goldberg had a vision to revolutionize child swim lessons that would emphasize the importance of water survival skills. Wanting to open her own school, she persuaded her husband to sell their house to get enough funds to finance her dream. When she needed more funds to build her first pool, she started applying for loan after loan, each one getting rejected. She found herself at a standstill until she decided to submit her business plan to a television program, similar to "Shark Tank", called "Enterprise 80's." A few months later, she surprisingly found out that she made the top 20 business plans and received a $10,000 loan. After running her small business for ten years in England, Goldberg made a huge decision to move to Florida where she would continue to operate her swim school, but this time around using an existing swimming pool at a fitness center. The first American-based British Swim School opened in 1993. After being asked to give the fitness center a higher percentage of the profit, Goldberg built a pool in Coral Springs, Florida with the help of financial backers. After 10 years of wild success, Goldberg's success snowballed and resulted in the opening of 5 more locations. With growing interest in British Swim School's water survival safety concept, Goldberg knew she could grow faster and provide a lucrative business opportunity to entrepreneurs around the country. In October 2011, British Swim School began franchising and now there are 45 franchise locations open in 14 states and one in Turkey.!
